Remnant Tracking

Every offcut above your minimum length saved automatically, tagged by profile, valued in dollars. A proprietary algorithm factors remnants into optimization for maximum efficiency.

Every Offcut Saved Automatically

After every optimization, RailChop saves every offcut that's longer than your minimum remnant length — default 6 inches, but you can change it. Each remnant is automatically tagged with the profile it came from, measured in inches, and valued based on your cost per foot setting. There's no manual entry. No typing dimensions into a spreadsheet. No guessing whether a piece on the rack is worth keeping. RailChop handles it all.

This automation means your remnant library grows without any extra work. Every time you run an optimization, the optimizer automatically generates new remnants and saves them. Over time, you build a real inventory of reusable stock, organized by profile and ready to be integrated into future cut plans.

Dollar Value, Not Just Length

Most shops track remnants by eye. They know there's a rack somewhere with leftover moulding, but they don't know what it's worth. Is that 18-inch piece worth using, or is it cheaper to just pull fresh stock? RailChop converts every remnant to dollar value based on your cost per foot setting. A 36-inch stick of $8-per-foot moulding shows up as $24. A 12-inch piece of $15-per-foot moulding shows as $15. That concrete number makes the decision to use it, sell it, or discard it clear and rational. The shop dashboard tracks total remnant value and usage trends across your whole operation.

This is particularly valuable when you're managing multiple profiles with different costs. One remnant might be expensive and worth protecting. Another might be cheap and worth burning through. RailChop shows you both, so you can make smart choices about which pieces matter and which are taking up space.

Aging Controls

Set a remnant aging threshold so older remnants don't sit on the rack indefinitely. If you want every remnant treated as immediately eligible, set the threshold to 0. If you prefer to manage the rack manually without aging pressure, turn aging off entirely.

The aging control is configurable, so it adapts to how your shop actually works. Some shops turn over inventory fast and don't need aging. Others keep a deeper rack and want systematic clearing. RailChop supports both approaches.

Batch Cleanup and Manual Management

You're not locked into RailChop's system. The remnant screen gives you full control. Mark individual pieces as used when you pull them for work outside the optimizer. Batch-delete all remnants below a certain length to clean out your library of tiny unusable pieces. Clear the entire library if you're starting fresh or consolidating inventory. Every piece shows its length, profile, age, and dollar value, so you know exactly what you're managing.
